How to anti-freeze for Heat Pump units ?
Release time:2026.10.14Heat Pump Anti-freeze Questions and Solutions
As the weather turns cooler and the heating season is about to begin, you may already be focusing on preparing your heat pump for use. Central air conditioning systems use water as the medium. During winter, if the water in the system remains stagnant and does not flow, it can quickly freeze at low temperatures. This seemingly common phenomenon actually carries significant risks — freezing can damage the heat exchanger, water pump, and fan coil units. In severe cases, it may even cause the entire central air conditioning system to fail, resulting in unnecessary losses for you. Therefore, before the heating season arrives, we especially remind you to pay attention to equipment freeze protection. The specific precautions are as follows:
1. It is recommended to add an appropriate proportion of antifreeze based on local temperatures, so you don't have to worry about the unit freezing even during power outages or prolonged periods of non-use.
2. All EVE equipment is equipped with a freeze protection function, provided that the water pump and main unit are linked and remain powered on.
3. For users who do not use the system in winter: be sure to drain the water completely. When draining, pay attention not only to opening the drain valve, but also to opening the air inlet valve at the highest point of the system, and finally use high-pressure gas to blow out residual moisture. Avoid only opening the drain valve without gas purging, as even a small amount of remaining water can freeze and damage the equipment.
4. Do not rely excessively on the equipment's freeze protection function — it is only an auxiliary measure. If the system is short of water or has other fault alarms, the freeze protection function will become ineffective.
5. The freeze protection function is directly triggered by detecting ambient temperature. Be sure to account for the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor environments when adjusting the freeze protection parameters, or extend the ambient temperature probe outdoors. Otherwise, the freeze protection function will also become ineffective.
6. The freeze protection function is only available in heating mode. For industrial chillers, special attention should be paid to freeze protection on the condensing side.
